Australia is well-known as one of the best countries for surfing in the world. That is no surprise, considering the country has nearly 60,000km of coastline. But how can you narrow down the best surf spots when there are so many to choose from? Here are four of some of the best surf spots from each state.

Noosa Heads QLD

An oldie but a goodie. Noosa Heads is one of the most popular surf spots in Queensland, and there is a reason for it! Great for both beginners and more experienced surfers, Noosa offers stunning blue waters and effortless waves that anyone can ride. Just 130km north of Brisbane, it is an easily accessible beach and great for those after a chill surfing session.

Bells Beach VIC

A must visit for serious surfers. Bells Beach is the site for Australia’s oldest professional surf event – the Rip Curl Pro which inspires surfers of all ages to take to the water.  The waves of the Southern Ocean slow down and weigh on the shallow reefs to create waves that can reach five meters or more and is suitable for more experienced surfers.

Aussie Pipe, Jervis bay NSW  

There are many different names for this beach, including Black Rock, Aussie Pipe, South Coast Pipe, Summercloud Bay or locally called Shelly Point. While everyone may not agree on the official name of the beach, everyone is on the same page when it comes to the quality of the waves. Another great beach for experienced surfers and for those who are up for a challenge, the beach offers epic rides with intense power.

Main Break, Margaret River WA

The Margaret River area has 75 surfing breaks spread across 130km of coastline. One of the most famous and popularly visited beach is Main Break beach. The beach offers intense waves that are super hollow, making it another spot for experienced surfers. Make sure to pack your surf helmet, wax, and repair kit for this one!

How to mount your surfboard on your 4WD

You’ve now found your ideal surfing spot; the question now is how do I mount my surfboard on my 4WD? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!
You will need 2 things when attaching a surfboard onto the roof of your car, including roof racks installed onto your vehicle, and some straps. Don’t have a roof rack? Check out our range of roof racks here (link)

Step 1: Get some straps
The best way to attach a surfboard onto your roof rack is with a sturdy pair of straps made form a strong material. Make sure the straps are long enough to reach across the width of the surfboard.

Step 2: Lift and place the board on top of the roof rack
There are several things that need to be kept in mind when placing the board on the roof, as incorrect installation of the board may mean that your board could be taken by the wind on the drive. It is best to lay the board flat and ensure that it is placed in the middle of the roof rack and that it is properly balanced. However, the positioning may depend on the type of board or the roof rack you have. If in doubt, ask a professional.

Step 3: Strap the board down
It is important that the straps tightly secure the board. You could use self-tightening straps to ensure that the straps are secure, and you don’t get too tired in the tightening process. Furthermore, make sure you strap down the nose and tail of the board to the back and front of the vehicle.

Step 4: Keep an eye out
While making the journey to your destination, make sure to take a few stops to check that the straps are still tight and ensure that the board is tightly secured.
