What Does TJM Stand For?

Nick Cummins Reckons He’s Cracked It

Ask ten 4WD blokes what TJM stands for and you’ll get ten different answers — none of them confirmed, all of them confident.

So when Nick “The Honey Badger” Cummins jumped behind the wheel with TJM, we did the obvious thing and asked the question out loud.

What does TJM actually stand for?

According to Nick…

  • Totally Jacked Machine
  • Tragically Jinxed Mission
  • The January Miracle

Honestly, any of them could apply after a big weekend on the tracks.

Nick fires them off with trademark chaos, and while they’re good for a laugh, they all somehow still fit the off-road lifestyle: big builds, sketchy moments, and the occasional miracle to get you outta there.

What TJM Really Stands For

TJM started the most Australian way possible — three mates, a 4WD, and gear that wasn’t tough enough.

Lloyd Taylor, Cliff Jones, and Steve Mollenhauer spent their time taking their rigs all over Australia. When the gear kept failing, they didn’t whinge about it — they built better stuff.

That’s where the name comes from:

  • Taylor
  • Jones
  • Mollenhauer

No branding agency. No buzzwords. Just bull bars built to cop a hit and keep going.

Built in a Shed. Proven on the Tracks.

Back in 1973, in a Brisbane shed, TJM became one of the first Aussie companies to manufacture and distribute premium 4WD gear — bull bars, side brush bars, the lot. Strong, simple, and built for real use.

What started small quickly turned into a brand trusted by off-roaders nationwide. The culture grew in the 70’s for the boys and fast forward to today and not much has changed — except the technology on 4wd’s, the testing, and how far the gear can take you.

TJM still designs and tests vehicle bull bars, 4x4 accessories, camping, and touring gear so you can load more, go harder, and push further without second-guessing your setup. From work utes to weekend adventures, the rule stays the same: build it right or don’t build it at all.

In 2015, TJM joined Aeroklas Australia, giving the brand global backing while keeping its Aussie backbone firmly planted.

So… What Does TJM Stand For?

After 50+ years, the meaning of TJM is yours to decide. We just hope you get out there, chase the kind of adventures three mates did back in the ’70s, and find your own version of what it stands for.
